So I tried out Verizon as my carrier...
Unfortunately they were a bit cost prohibitive...

So I cancelled my service within their customer satisfaction guarantee period and received a hefty bill in the mail a few days later.  Yes, they later agreed on the phone that they would take off the $350 early termination fee, since I returned my phone within the 14 day period, but I still owe around $130 for 11 days of usage on a plan that typically costs around $90 a month.

So this is what they do.  First of all, the first day I had my phone was a separate bill / plan.  The next 10 days of service were on a second bill.  I was charged tax and all those nasty fee's on both bills.  Then they prorate the second bill, and minutes on that bill.  So, from their bill, my 450min plan was now a 160min plan.  I had used 206 minutes, they charged me at 45c * 46mins. Which comes to $20.70.  Plus they charged the Verizon Wireless Surcharges, Fed Universal Service Charge, Regulatory Charge, Administrative Charge, LA State USF Surcharge, and 911 Fee.  TWICE!  For only 11 days of service.

Now I asked questions about this at 2 different Verizon stores and at best buy before I bought the phone.  I literally spent over 8 hours talking to them about early termination, costs associated, etc.  Felt like I had a pretty good grasp on how they bill.

Since I'm now on the other side of the equation, trying to figure out what they're thinking, how could I have missed that they prorate unlike any other carrier,  I've asked using their online chat for details regarding what exactly verizon's prorate/prorated/proration policies are.  Now that I know exactly what to ask, and I still couldn't get a strait answer from them.  Here's the conversations, I have the full conversations in email if anyone wants them.

Finally... So I did the math on everything and still can't figure out where they're coming up with their numbers:

So in short... stay away from Verizon... else you might end up with a bill worse than this!
